James Barralet and Sankar Chowdhury

James and Sankar offer a show which presents top quality Indian music in a way which can be understood and enjoyed by all ages and backgrounds. They have enthralled audiences across the UK, playing at many major festivals.

James and Sankar’s workshops for children introduce the elements of Indian Music and Indian culture.

James's interest in Indian Music stems from his six month voluntary teaching trip to the Mathieson Music School, Kolkata, in 1998. Alongside his teaching duties he studied Indian music and tabla in Kolkata and in Varanasi. He continued his studies at the Ali Akbar School in Basel with maestro sarod player, Ken Zuckerman.

Sankar Prosad Chowdhury is a senior disciple of Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri and visits Europe annually from his home in Kolkata to give concerts and tuition.
